Brisbane’s talented performers will have more opportunities to pursue a career in the arts thanks to new Albanese Labor Government funding.
The $15,000 grant to Purpose in Performance (PIP) Theatre delivers on a 2022 Federal Election commitment and increases access to training and career development in the arts – a core objective of Australia’s new National Cultural Policy, Revive.
PIP Theatre is a social enterprise charity, live theatre production company and boutique venue that creates paid opportunities for emerging and established professional creatives, giving local performers a chance to shine.
With a focus on inspiring positive social change, performances at PIP Theatre contain powerful messages for their audiences to encourage conversation and foster community.
This investment in Australia’s cultural sector will support Brisbane’s vibrant independent theatre scene and enable PIP Theatre to play a key role in reviving Brisbane’s inner-city arts precinct of Park Road, Milton.
Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said PIP Theatre embodies the best of Australia’s cultural sector.
“A key part of Revive is valuing and supporting the work our artists do.
“That’s exactly what organisations like PIP Theatre do so well,” Minister Burke said.
“This grant will allow PIP Theatre to continue promoting and creating opportunities for artists.”
Assistant Minister for Education and Regional Development, Senator Anthony Chisholm said after a decade of neglect under the previous government, the Albanese Government is committed to supporting the Australian arts sector.
“Local organisations like PIP Theatre are at the heart of Brisbane’s arts scene and make a huge contribution to the vibrancy and diversity of our community – that’s why funding like this is so important,
“I look forward to seeing what the team at PIP Theatre do with the extra funding, and what exciting new shows they’ll bring to the people of Brisbane.”
