A new boat ramp at River Heads will be delivered if a Labor Government is returned in just over two weeks’ time, benefitting the hundreds of local fisherman and boaties who use the ramp to access K’gari, Wide Bay and the Great Sandy Strait.
Labor will back Council’s plans for the River Heads Boat Ramp, with Labor Candidate for Hinkler, Trish Mears welcoming Senator for Queensland, Anthony Chisholm to the site today to make the commitment.
The $2.5 million funding will help deliver an 8-metre-wide reinforced concrete landing facility to ensure safe and reliable access for a wide range of boats and barges.
Without this investment, accessibility to local waterways would be significantly compromised over time, impacting tourism, local boating groups and emergency response efforts.
Identified under the Fraser Coast Regional Council’s Advocacy Plan for 2024, the delivery of this ramp upgrade will also keep residents and local businesses on K’gari connected with the mainland.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
Quotes attributable to Senator for Queensland, Anthony Chisholm:
“An estimated 500,000 people visit K'gari each year, with a recent study showing the area is increasing in popularity, with more than 337,000 camper nights and almost 67,000 vehicle access permits purchased in 2023.
